What are herbal tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are like liquid gold mines of plant nutrients. They are concentrated liquid herbal extracts made from plants and used as herbal medicine. They are taken orally to relieve a wide range of health issues, or as a proactive way to support specific elements of your wellbeing.
Why take herbal tinctures?
Herbal tinctures work efficiently, targeting various aspects of your wellbeing from boosting your immunity to stress/anxiety. The concentrated liquid form allows for quick absorption, making them potent options for health support. Because tinctures contain concentrated plant extracts, they are used as convenient vehicles for getting the right nutrients to where they are needed in the body.
How are herbal tinctures made?
Herbal tinctures are made by combining medicinal plants with water and alcohol as a solvent. The alcohol extracts active nutrients from plants to form a concentrated liquid. This combination allows for a greater part of the whole plant to be extracted and preserves the medicine for much longer use. During this progress, Breath of Shakti infusions are energetically charged with Organic Ecuadorian Palo Santo smoke and Reiki and set with specific healing intentions.
What are the benefits of taking herbal tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are used for a wide range of issues, including immunity boosting, anxiety/stress, PMS, pain, insomnia and more. They’re concentrated, 100% natural, easily absorbable, potent, effective, easy to travel with, and user friendly. Tinctures bypass the need to digest whole herbs in the gut and are easily absorbed, giving them an advantage over taking pills or capsules.
How long does it take to experience the benefits from herbal tinctures?
This all depends on the issue you're addressing, if it’s sleep issues or stress/anxiety, you can usually expect benefits to manifest from the same day, however stronger effects usually start within 2 weeks.
How should I consume herbal tinctures?
Squeeze the bulb several times until the glass dropper is full, then squeeze the liquid directly into your mouth or add it to a glass of water or juice, as tinctures are not designed with flavor in mind. Stick to the dosage recommended, excessive use can potentially lead to adverse effects.
Should I take herbal tinctures until the tongue?
It isn’t necessary to do this, herbal tinctures can be taken straight down the hatch or added to a glass of water of juice.
Can I take more than one herbal tincture at once?
Yes. Often there is a synergistic effect when taking herbs with one another, they can enhance each other to work even more effectively together.
When is the best time of day to consume herbal tinctures?
We recommend taking herbal tinctures upon waking and right before bed (and at lunchtime for a 3rd dose, morning & arvo tea also, if dosing 4-5 times per day) Leave your tinctures on your bedside table, bathroom, in your kitchen, or in your handbag/backpack for convenience. The most important thing is that you take them consistently and at the recommended dosage. For digestive formulas, it’s recommended to take them 10-15 mins before meals, but if you forget, it’s better to take the tincture after a meal than not at all.

Herbal tinctures can provide fast-acting relief and support to your body’s systems. They are made with natural ingredients and we usually recommend diluting each dose with a glass of water or juice, as tinctures are not designed with flavor in mind. Are herbal tinctures safe to be consumed by children?
One dose of alcohol-based herbal tincture is equal in alcohol content to a very ripe banana, making herbal tinctures safe for potentially everyone, providing that the herb(s) do not clash with any medication being taken or any health concerns.

First and foremost, I believe it is up to the parents of each child to make this decision, as there are many herbs available in glycerites, as opposed to alcohol. You can evaporate the alcohol out of the tincture by adding the recommended dose to a cup of hot tea (do not stir, leave the dose on the surface of the hot water) Leave it uncovered so the heat can evaporate the alcohol from the water. If you cover the tea, the alcohol will not evaporate out. Wait for at least 5 minutes for the alcohol to dissipate.

Dr. Aviva Romm is well-known in the natural health and modern medicine community. She’s a herbalist and midwife who’s raised four children using herbs, and also a medical doctor. She has a lot of experience working with children. Here’s what she had to say. “Used appropriately, liquid herbal extracts—tinctures—are among the most valuable and effective botanical tools for treating children’s health concerns. They are very concentrated so only small doses are required, and they can easily be hidden in water or a tiny amount of juice with practically no taste for most herbs that you’d use with kids. The amount of alcohol in a dose of tincture is extremely small; however if you are concerned, many herbs are available in glycerites. IF you do use alcohol tinctures with your kids, dilute the tincture in 2 tablespoons of water—alcohol shouldn’t be put directly in the mouth due to risks of damage over time to the delicate oral mucosa. Warmly, Aviva” Ref: www.avivaromm.com
Your label says there is alcohol in your herbal tinctures, how much and why?
Alcohol is widely considered the optimal solvent for producing tinctures that extract the largest range of plant properties. This method allows easy absorption of healing plant compounds into the bloodstream. Other solvents can be used to make herbal medicines, such as glycerin, vinegar, and honey, however these methods tend to not be as strong. Alcohol-based tinctures are highly potent and concentrated, meaning only a very small dose is required to reap the benefits. One dose of liquid extract is equal in alcohol content to a very ripe banana.

Do tinctures contain gluten when made with grain alcohol?
There is no gluten in tinctures. Grain alcohol does not contain gluten even when made with a gluten containing grain. This is because proteins (gluten) do not pass through the distillation process. Gluten is a protein and proteins are not volatile. Only volatile substances pass through the distillation process.
How should I store tinctures?
Yes! All Breath of Shakti products are 100% vegan.
How should I store tinctures?
It is recommended to store herbal tinctures in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and away from fluctuating temperatures. Common places to store them are the bedside table, kitchen/bathroom table, in your handbag/backpack, on your office desk, or in your carry-on luggage, if you’re traveling.
How do herbal tinctures interact with the immune system?
Immunity Booster was designed to proactively enhance your immune system as daily support, and to help you recover faster following illness. It’s like your body's security team, working behind the scenes to help you fend off illness and get better faster when you need to.
What is the history of herbal tinctures?
The history of herbal tinctures stretches from ancient Egypt through the Middle Ages, and into today's holistic health scene. The method for creating tinctures has evolved, but the core concept remains: extracting plant goodness for health benefits.
